DWR & Waterproofness
What Is DWR?
And why does it matter?
When it comes to keeping dry in unpredictable weather, it’s all about the details — like DWR coating.
DWR stands for Durable Water Repellent. It’s a protective treatment applied to the outside of our All Weather Anorak, and All Weather Jacket to help water bead up and roll off the fabric, instead of soaking in. This keeps you drier, longer — and makes your jacket lighter and more breathable in the process.
-
Is it sustainable?
Yes — the DWR coatings we use are PFC-free, meaning they’re free of harmful perfluorinated chemicals traditionally used in water-repellent finishes. By choosing more eco-friendly alternatives, we reduce the environmental impact while still delivering high-performance, weather-resistant outerwear.
-
Wait — Is that the same as waterproof?
Good question. Waterproof means water can’t pass through the fabric, thanks to a combination of DWR coating and waterproof membranes or taped seams built into the garment. In All Weather Jackets, it’s this smart layering of technology that keeps you dry inside and out.
DWR fights off the first line of water on the surface, and the waterproof construction underneath takes care of the rest.
